Technology Tuesday | Websites I Wish I Knew About Before I Started Teaching

Hello friends, it has been a super busy week. I was so excited to go back to school and have everything ready for this week. Today I want to bring you a website that we all are familiar with and that is  Pinterest. I know is nothing new but, I did not always new about it and how it worked.

A coordinator at the college I went to two years ago introduced me to  Pinterest. I did not know anything about it and did not know how to use it but when I did, I got pinning like crazy. If you go to my  Pinterest now you will not find many boards, but that is because I have created a new one so it could be more organized. I made the mistake to Pin and Pin but there was no organization. Now, that I have more experience in the classroom I can decide how to separate my Pins and put them in categories that make sense.

I am not saying that I am an expert at Pinning now because I am not. I still have many different things to learn about it. I find new ways to use it all the time. For example I did not know that you could share a board with other Pinners, how exiting to share ideas that you have found. This could be a very useful tool to use and instead of trying to explain a craft that you found on  Pinterest you can actually just send other people the Pin and they will be able to see it with their own eyes.

Question: when did you found Pinterest and what is the best thing you have found?

Technology Tuesday | Websites I Wish I Knew About Before I Started Teaching

In this series, I will be telling you about helpful websites. I’m learning about new websites all the time and would like to share them with you. I will be sharing new websites every Tuesday.

Let me tell you about a great website that is free, yes FREE. I wish I knew about this website when I started teaching. This is a great tool that makes you look cool. GONOODLEis a great tool that my mentor teacher showed me this year. This website has videos that allow student to move and shake things off. We have used it as a prize for our class, when we (my mentor teacher and I) are wowed, we add a letter to the board and when they spell the whole word they get a GONOODLE.

What do you think about GONOODLE? Do you use it in your classroom? How?

Always Learning

Hello Friends,

Today, I spent time with my family and I feel refreshed to take on this next week. Today I relaxed all day so I can concentrate on my midterm tomorrow. Don’t judge me I know it’s due tomorrow but hey, I need to relax too. Here in Arizona we have fall break next week that is also one of the reasons I decided to “procrastinate” a little, I knew I can have all day tomorrow dedicated into finishing my midterm essay.

My husband and I visited
  Butterfly Wonderland
today and we had a lot of fun. I was able to see all the beautiful butterflies and some moths as well. This place was amazing (I think I have a new favorite animal) and all the time I was thinking how amazing it would be to bring my students here after a unit on butterflies.

Today I will be planning the things I have to do this week so I can have a productive week. I think is important to plan things out even if they don’t come out the way I plan them. I am not the best at managing my time but I love planning out my week. When I plan, I feel more organized and I am able to keep moving to reach my goal each week. My goal for this week is to Be Productive, I don’t have school next week therefore I would like to be all caught up with everything before next quarter.

what a week!

It has been a WONDERFUL week. I have been very busy juggling teaching and homework. Let’s say we had three days of parent-teacher conferences and a midterm is due Monday. I was very excited to see how parent-teacher conferences look like and my mentor teacher is great, I always feel I am learning from the best.
I learned how to talk to parents, although I was excited I was also nervous. I believe my mentor teacher did a good job communicating parents everything their child has learned. I saw the importance of having a list of the elements we want to communicate with parents so that we don’t forget anything we want to say.
I am excited to see my final work in my midterm. The topic of my midterm is language acquisition and what we do to help our ELLs. I am going to try to answer my own inquiry question (which I will share with you later). I have to be honest, I don’t think that writing essays is my forte but I have faith in myself.

This is all from me today, please subscribe and comment below.
Thank you

I am back and my wheels are turning!

Hello friends, I have been away and very busy learning. I started the academic year and been in the classroom learning. I can say that it has been a rough journey but very well worth it. Today I feel very excited to share that I have attended a very informative conference that got my wheels turning. I went to the Arizona English Teacher Association (AETA) and learned many new things that are helping me grow professionally. The most amazing thing about this conference is that I got to meet Ralph Fletcher a teacher and author of books that help us (teachers) teach writing. I was very excited to meet him and attend this conference with my teacher friends that.

The individual presentations were informative as well. In one of the sessions my friend I were thinking of ideas on how to use our learned knowledge and help our student master standards. I was able to see how I can incorporate student centered activities and focus on what my students want to learn. This will hold them accountable for their own learning especially when they have chosen topics that are interesting for them. I also saw another one that helps us have parents be more involved in their child’s learning. Overall, I am content and happy to know that I have learned something new today and will be able to incorporate it in my current classroom and in the future as well in my own classroom.
